Now, where does our hero Patterson come into this? Well, imagine you’re at Tosche Station trying to score some power converters, and you see a Jawa selling the best damn blue milk you’ve ever tasted. That’s Patterson’s Kenobi edit in a nutshell.
Patterson, a devoted Star Wars fan with the editing skills of a Jedi Master, decided that the Kenobi series could use a little… spicing up, you might say. He took the footage from the show, sprinkled it with the magic of a thousand Force ghosts, and created his own version that essentially centred Kenobi around the storytelling and engaged the dynamics of the trauma instilled in his relationships with his former apprentice and brother; which he generously then shared with the world for free (given you have a disney+ account (wink wink)). Imagine that, taking out astounding scenes like a trained mercenary failing to get around a tree while chasing a toddler and actually making the title character the focus. Absolute nonsense, but then again only Siths deal in absolutes.
But what makes Patterson’s edit so special? Well, imagine if you took Obi-Wan’s generally amazing presence and made a 2-hour feature film about the most charismatic enthralling character in the whole galaxy and then actually delivered with the score from the original saga of films. In Patterson’s version, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the embodiment of the stoic Jedi Master we remember from the prequels. He actually lives true to his character, and “experiences” and performs so well that the true fans could actually consider it something to be proud of and then some.
And the one-liners, oh, the one-liners! “I’ve got a bad feeling about this”, “Hello there”.
But Patterson’s genius doesn’t stop at the dialogue. He’s also added a little bit of flair to the action sequences. Picture Obi-Wan and Vader engaging in an epic lightsaber battle and the story tying it to the prequels while giving a more impactful feeling to true Star Wars fans.
But it’s not all fun and games. Patterson has also managed to keep the heart of the Star Wars universe alive and well in his edit. The emotional moments still hit you like a thermal detonator, and the epic battles still make you want to pick up a lightsaber and join the fight against the dark side.
Now, the big question is, will Disney embrace the Patterson edit and make it official? Imagine a world where the Kenobi series is not not only a canon film but it is actually good. It might just be the recipe for a hit that appeals to fans of all ages. Plus, Disney can make a mint on merchandise, which is the real bottom line.
In a galaxy where we often take things for granted, Patterson’s Kenobi edit is a breath of fresh air. It’s a reminder that Star Wars, at its core, is about story-telling, consistency, and going on epic adventures. May the force be with you.
